Gauchos cruise pas Jags in opener

The Saddleback women's soccer team opened the 2015 campaign with a 3-0 win over Southwestern College on Friday in Chula Vista.  Emilee Monnig scored twice as the Gauchos won on opening day for the third straight year.                                           

Monnig (pictured left) opened the scoring in the 21^st minute off a pass from Liana Larkins.  Just 12 minutes later, Amber Martin (pictured right) redirected a pass from Helene Hollidge for a 2-0 advantage and Saddleback was off and running.  Monnig would close the scoring in the second half in the 53^rd minute off a pass from Ilaina Brenes-Rodriguez, giving the Gauchos more than enough offense to hold off the Jaguars.

Saddleback used a combination of Shana Leventhal and Angelica Ramos in net.  Both keepers played a half. 

Saddleback will try for second win to start the season when it travels to MiraCosta College on Tuesday.  Kickoff is set for 3:15 PM.
