Shaffer Earns Scholarship Offer From Mercyhurst

Saddleback sophomore water polo player Dylan Shaffer has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his education and water polo career at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania.

"I wouldn't have been able to do this without you," Shaffer told Saddleback head water polo coach Jason Lynch.  "Things turned out well and Saddleback was the right choice for me and a good fit."

Shaffer, who prepped at nearby Tesoro High School, played two seasons for the Gauchos and was the fourth-leading scorer on this year's team with 44 goals in his starting role.  He also added 44 steals and 17 assists.  That was a big improvement over his freshman season when he was a non-starter and accounted for just nine goals and 11 steals.

He was a psychology major at Saddleback and will continue to major in psychology at Mercyhurst.  While at Saddleback, Shaffer excelled academically and was on the college's Athletic Honor Roll.

Mercyhurst was 13-11 overall in 2018 and 4-2 in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC).  The Lakers finished third in the regular-season standings.
