Gauchos earn second straight shutout

Saddleback picked up a 9-0 win at Bakersfield College on Friday in Bakersfield.  It was the second shutout in as many days as the Gauchos earned their 11th win of the season.

Saddleback cruised through the singles portion of the match, winning all six matches and dropping just eight games in the process.  The Gauchos had two clean sweeps when Oliver Ludwig and Ryan Burns both won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.  Tyler Edwards (6-2, 6-1), Lucas Fortt (6-0, 6-1), Chris Torcaso (6-0, 6-2) and Ivan Ozerets (6-1, 6-1) were also easy winners in singles play.

Torcaso and Edwards then made quick work at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 win over Philip Friden and Conrad Dalton.  Anthony Tran and Lucas Fortt had to go to a tiebreaker to defeat Moses Jimenez and Luis Aceves, 9-8.  The Gauchos picked up a win at No. 3 doubles by default.

Saddleback is now 11-6 overall and 4-3 in Orange Empire Conference play for the year.  The Gauchos have one match remaining on the regular season when they travel to Orange Coast College on Tuesday.  Match time with the Pirates is scheduled for 2:00 PM in Costa Mesa.
