Gauchos third at Industry Hills

The Saddleback men's golf team had a solid finish at Industry Hills Golf Club on Monday, finishing third in Orange Empire Conference competition.  The Gauchos moved into a tie for third place in OEC play with four events remaining.

Saddleback was desperate for a solid finish if they want to qualify for the Southern California Regional Playoffs in May.  The Gauchos responded with their third best team score of the year, with Cole Griffo leading the charge.

Griffo (pictured) shot an even par round of 71 at the 6,826-yard, Babe Zaharias Course.  It was Griffo's best round of the year after shooting 73 two weeks back at Candlewood Golf Club and lifted him into a tie for sixth place in individual conference medalist play.

Griffo was followed by Jackson Blogg and Kevin An, who both shot 5-over-par rounds of 76.  Medalist honors went to Cypress College's Matt Rafter, who shot 2-under (69). 

Saddleback (11-14) moved into a tie with Riverside City College (11-14) for third place in the Orange Empire Conference standings, one game ahead of Mt. San Antonio College (10-15).  Cypress College (23-2) remains in first place, followed by Orange Coast College (20-5).
