McGrath captures GWC Invite

The Saddleback women's cross country team finished second at the Golden West Invitational on Friday in Huntington Beach.  Sophomore Dana McGrath won individual honors, blowing away the field.

McGrath finished the 5k trek in 19:37.03, winning by more than 22 seconds.  She was running third for most for the race before taking off with just over a mile remaining and leaving her competitors in the dust.  It was McGrath's second win of the season after winning the Palomar Invitational two weeks back.

Saddleback had two others in the top-10 with Nayelli Hernandez finishing seventh and Cayla Porter 10th.  Hernandez finished in 20:24.62 while Porter crossed the finish line in 20:36.54.  Saddleback's Alexis Park finished 20th (21:22.82) while Amairani Sanchez was 44th (22:49.35).

Saddleback finished second in tem competition behind Riverside City College.  Other Orange Empire Conference teams competing at the meet included Orange Coast (3rd), Santa Ana (6th) and Fullerton (9th).

Saddleback will be back in action in two weeks at the Cerritos Falcon Invitational at Don Knabe Regional Park.
