Women dominate at Palomar Invitational

The Saddleback women's cross country had a strong showing at the Palomar Invitational on Friday in Oceanside.  The Gauchos dominated the competition, with four harriers finishing in the top-5 in team competition.

Saddleback is young on paper, but looked like grizzled veterans on Friday.  The Gauchos finished 2-3-5-6 overall, dominating what was a fairly talented meet.

Sophomore Megan Good led the charge, crossing the finishing line in 19:41 and nine seconds off the pace set by Imperial Valley's Sabrina Benavides.  She was followed closely by a pack of freshmen as Holly Morales was third overall (19:46), Alexis Park fifth (19:57) and Dana McGrath sixth (20:06) in a field of 52 runners.  Saddleback's fifth runner on the day was Hailey Hunner, who finished in 15th place overall (21:01).

Saddleback finished with a team score of 27, which was a long distance in front of second place finisher El Camino College (67) and third place Riverside City College (70).  Other Orange Empire Conference programs in the race included Fullerton College (7th), Norco College (8th) (Golden West College (no team score) and Santiago Canyon College (no team score).

Saddleback will race again next Friday at the SoCal Preview at Cerritos Regional Park.  Race time is scheduled for 9:00 AM.
