Shorthanded women run well at Mt. SAC

The Saddleback women's cross country team showed up at the Mt. SAC Invitational a bit shorthanded on Saturday, with a couple of runners missing the meet for various reasons.  The Gauchos overcame by finishing seventh at one of the better competitions of the season.

Saddleback knew it would be tough without a couple of its top harriers but managed to step up the pace in their absence.  All five starters finished in the top-60 of team competition, giving them a team total of 203 points.

Two Gauchos finished in the top-30, led by sophomore Sierra Pilarski.  She crossed the finish line of the 3-mile trek in 20:34.4 to finish 26th among runners competing with a team.  She was followed by Hannah Badger (pictured), who was 28th with a time of 20:53.4.

"I was really proud of the way they performed," head coach Matt Sherman said.  "To go in there shorthanded and finish seventh was solid."

Saddleback will host the Orange Empire Conference finals next Thursday at the Norman P. Murray Center in Mission Viejo.  Race time is scheduled for 9:00 AM.
