Women run 7th at Golden West Invite

The Saddleback women's cross country fielded a full lineup for the first time this year and had promising results with a seventh place finish at the Golden West Invitation on Friday in Huntington Beach.  The Gauchos were led by freshman Jennifer Fletcher.

Saddleback had been one racer short for team competition heading into Friday so it was unclear of what to expect from the squad heading to the Golden West Invitational with a full lineup.   The Gauchos represented themselves well against some of the top competition in Southern California.

Fletcher (pictured) finished the 5k trek in 22:08.9 to finish 33rd overall and 32nd among competitors in the team competition.  She was followed closely by fellow freshmen Hannah Badger (22:31.7) and Victoria Powers (7:17.4), who finished 38th and 39th, respectively, in the team competition.  The all-freshman lineup also included Megan Good (23:35.5, 52nd) and Kirsten Whieldon (24:11.4, 58th) in a meet that included 124 harriers.

Saddleback finished third among programs from the Orange Empire Conference as Riverside City College finished second overall, Orange Coast College sixth, Fullerton College 10th and Golden West College 17th.

Saddleback will run again at the Tour de Cuesta on October 6 (hosted by Cuesta College).
