Gauchos spread the wealth against SAC

The Saddleback women's water polo team won its first Orange Empire Conference match of the season on Wednesday with a 20-7 victory over Santa Ana College at the Saddleback pool.  The Gauchos had 12 different players score in the win.

Saddleback improved to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in OEC after jumping to a quick start and never looking back.  The Gauchos darted to a 5-0 lead in the first 4.5 minutes, with Makenna Duty scoring just 17 seconds into the game to set the tone.  Duty would score again with 1:20 remaining in the opening quarter as the Gauchos raced to a 7-1 lead after the opening frame.

Things settled down for the next 1.5 quarters as Saddleback had a chance to get a number of fresh bodies into the game.  The Gauchos then distanced themselves in the final 10 minutes of the match, outscoring a tired Santa Ana squad 10-3.

Kaylee Inducil (pictured) and Maddie Choi both finished with a team-high three goals for Saddleback while four others finished with two.  Emy Castaneda led Santa Ana with four goals on the day.

Saddleback will play again in the Mt. SAC Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
