Bobcats claw past Glendale in opener

The Saddleback women's volleyball team opened the 2021 season with a 3-1 win against Glendale College on Friday night in the Saddleback Gymnasium.  It was the first match in over 21 months due to COVID-19.

With only one sophomore on the roster and no competitive matches in quite some time, nobody really knew what to expect when the Bobcats took the court on Friday night.  Saddleback impressed early and late in opening the season 1-0.

Saddleback streaked past Glendale in the opening game, going on a big run and cruising to a 25-13 win.  The Bobcats then returned the favor to Glendale in the second, committing a number of service errors as Glendale managed a 25-14 win in set two.

Saddleback took control midway through the third set as the Bobcats used some depth in warm conditions in the gymnasium.  Saddleback cruised to a 25-16 win in the set and then finished off the Vaqueros 25-18 in the final set for a 3-1 win.

Kenzie Huston, Logan Daniels and Haley Jones played a big part in the win on opening night.  Huston led the team with 37 kills while Daniels had 34 assists and Jones had 10 digs.

Saddleback will play again on Wednesday when they travel to San Diego Miramar College.  Match time is set for 5:00 PM in San Diego.
