Gauchos dig the result at Golden West

The Saddleback women's volleyball team moved into a tie for fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference with a five set win over Golden West College on Wednesday in Huntington Beach.  The Gauchos responded adversity with a resounding win in the fifth set.

Saddleback jumped out quickly, winning the first two sets 25-19, 25-13.  However, the Gauchos couldn't keep the momentum going as the Rustlers battled back for 25-17 and 25-23 wins in the next two sets.  Saddleback battled through the adversity and responded with a dominating win in the fifth set, outscoring the Rustlers 15-5.

Saddleback received an outstanding performance from Kiana Camargo, who finished with a season-high of 51 assists for the night.  She also had nine digs in what was a critical win for the Gauchos.  

Saddleback was solid in the defensive end, led by Shay Savoie.  The Gauchos finished with 80 digs for the night with Savoie leading the way with 35.  She wasn't alone in double-digits as Samantha Senske had 15 and Julia Brown 13.

Saddleback finished with a .212 kill percentage on the offensive end, thanks to the solid work from Camargo.  Ireland Ridill converted on 12-of-24 attempts while Brown led the way with 26 kills for the night.  The Gauchos also had 15 service aces for the match, led by both Senske (4) and Samantha Dougher (4).

Saddleback is now 5-8 overall and 4-3 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Gauchos are tied for fourth place in the OEC with Riverside and one game back of third place Cypress.

Saddleback will play again on Friday at Santa Ana College.  Match time is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
