Gauchos fly past Seahawks

The Saddleback women's volleyball team won its home-opener on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 victory over Los Angeles Harbor College in the Saddleback Gymnasium.  It was the first sweep of the season for the Gauchos, who now stand at 2-1 against programs from California.

Saddleback was facing a Harbor program that came into the match at 2-0 on the season.  The Gauchos made quick work of the previously undefeated Seahawks with a 25-11, 25-10, 25-15 win.

Saddleback was led on offense by Lauren Whitehouse and Mackenzie Alexander, who both had six kills apiece.  Alexander also did it on the other end with three block assists while Kiana Camargo and Mariah Torres had 10 assists apiece.  Kelli Dowell led the team with six digs.

"It was great to get back home and defend our home court," Saddleback coach Brian Hughes said.  "Hopefully we can use this win to build up our confidence going into the Santa Ana Tournament."

Saddleback is now 3-4 overall and 2-1 against CCCAA programs.  The Gauchos will play next when they travel to Santa Ana on Friday for matches against Rio Hondo College and Chaffey College.  They open against Rio Hondo at 2:00 PM.
