PB’s fall at RCC Meet

The women's track & field team was back in action on Friday at Riverside City College where they battled against RCC and Orange Coast College.  A number of personal-best scores and times were recorded by the Gauchos.

Saddleback battled neck and neck with the Pirates and Tigers, looking to post impressive numbers with the Southern California Regional just six weeks away.  A number of athletes recorded personal-bests, with close to 10 finishing in the top four in events.

Fatima El-Haj-Ibrahim (pictured) recorded a time of 1:04.03 in the 400-meters, shattering her own best by 1.24 seconds to finish third overall.

Angel Vallier continued her assault on the record books, moving into third all-time in Saddleback history when she ran the 800-meters in 2:18.15.  It broke her personal best by 4.82 seconds and gave her the seventh fastest time in the state this year while finishing second overall on Friday.

Caroline Dagarin was right behind Vallier in finishing third in a time of 2:23.77.  It beat her personal best by 1.58 seconds and gave her the 24th fastest time in the state this spring.  Dagarin is now seventh all-time in Saddleback history in the event.

Rachel Oberschelp moved into seventh all-time in Saddleback history when she ran the 5,000-meters in 18:50.80 to finish in second place at the meet.  It was the first time Oberschelp had run the distance since arriving at the school and put her in 17th place in the state this spring.

Tori Powers had a solid day in the 400-meter hurdles, setting a personal-best with a time of 1:11.70 to finish third overall.  It was 6.39 seconds faster than her previous best and moved her into 34th in the state this year.   Right behind Powers in fourth place in the race was Natalie Kron, who had a personal-best time of 1:16.24

In the field events, two Gauchos had personal-bests in the pole vault as both Amanda Amundson and Hannah Auld had vaults of 2.93 meters to finish in a tie for fourth place at the meet.  Both are now tied for the 10th best vault in program history and are tied for 18th in the state this spring.

Anna Gillis also recorded a personal-best in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.94 meters to finish fourth at the meet.  It moved her into 14th all-time in school history and ranks 13th in the state this season.

Saddleback is scheduled to compete again in the San Diego Mesa College Invitational on Saturday.
