Vallier sets new program record

The Saddleback women's track & field team is back in action this weekend at a meet at Occidental College.  Angel Vallier continued her roll, setting the program record in the 1,500 meters on Friday.

Vallier has been hot to start the season, setting state marks and nearing program records.  She finally reached her mark on Friday when she ran the 1,500 meters faster than anyone in Gaucho program history.  Valleir crossed the tape in 4:43.08, breaking the record of Sara Fleming in 2015.  Her time was 0.81 seconds faster than last week's performance at the California State University of Los Angeles Meet.

Vallier's time is the fastest in the state this spring, edging out runners from Mt. San Antonio College, Glendale College and San Bernardino Valley College.  Joining Vallier in the top-5 is teammate Caroline Dagarin, who ran a 4:50.01 at Occidental.  Dagarin's time ranks fifth in the state this spring.

Another that set a state mark on Friday was Rachel Oberschelp, who set a personal-best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  Oberschelp crossed the line in 11:40.14, which was 0.78 seconds faster than her personal-best last spring and leads the state by nearly 14 seconds.

Vallier finished 11th overall at the event, which also features four-year schools and club participants.  Dagarin finished 22nd overall in the same race.

Another with a solid performance was Tori Powers, who set a personal-best in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.80.  She finished 15th overall.

In addition, thrower Anna Gillis set a personal-best with a toss of 36.47 meters in the discus.  She finished third in the event and now has the 15th best throw in the state this spring.  Gillis also set personal highs in both the hammer (40.37) and javelin (26.99).  She is ranked No. 12 in both events at the state level this spring.
