Bobcats pick up first win of the season
The Saddleback women's tennis program picked up its first win of the season with a 5-4 decision over Cypress College on Thursday at Cypress. It was the first win for the program since the end of the 2019 campaign.
Saddleback bounced back from a loss on Tuesday with a hard-fought win on Thursday. It was the first win for head coach Melody Gillinger, who took over the program during the offseason.
Saddleback carried a 2-1 lead into singles play after winning 2-of-3 matches at doubles to start the day. The Bobcats won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Raya Johnson and Vanessa Gee were 8-6 winners on court one with Kavelle Tomaiko and Emily West winning 8-5 on court two.
Saddleback then won at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles to close out the team match. Johnson was a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) winner at No. 1 singles. Gee defeated her opponent at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0. West was a winner at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-2.
Saddleback will play again on Tuesday when they travel to Riverside City College. Match time with the Tigers is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
