Melkonian and Parks advance at state tournament

The Saddleback women's tennis team had four players advance to the CCCAA state tournament this week held in Ojai and Ventura.  Jacklyn Melkonian and Kristina Parks are still playing after Melkonian won in singles and teamed with Parks to advance in doubles.

Melkonian advanced to the round of by sweeping past Southwestern College's Sophia Maple on Thursday morning, 6-0, 6-0.  She will now face the No. 7-seed in the tournament in Marah Pinquian from College of the Sequoias.  Melkonian entered the tournament as the No. 10-seed.  A win would put her in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Melkonian also teamed with Parks for a dominating win in doubles.  They cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ventura College's Allie DeMarco and Alyssa Powell.  Melkonian and Parks were seeded No. 6 for the tournament and will play Folsom Lake College's tandem of Erin Cline and Laura Parkyn in the round of 16 on Friday afternoon.  If they win, they would play in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
