Gauchos stifle Chargers in final home match

The Saddleback women's tennis team closed out its final home match of the 2018 season with a 9-0 win over Cypress College on Tuesday at the Saddleback Tennis Complex.  The Gauchos sit in fourth place with one match to go in the 2018 season.

Saddleback dominated throughout, playing a Cypress team with only four players on the roster.  Jacklyn Melkonian, Kristina Parks and Bailey Donine all won two matches on the day while the rest of the squad was flawless. 

Melkonian and Parks were pressed in their opening match of the day at No. 1 doubles, but finished off Ashley Garcia and Shannon Beaver with a 9-7 win.  Donine teamed with Abril Marziali in another close match as the Gaucho duo held on for an 8-6 win. 

Wth Saddleback up 3-0 heading into singles play, Melkonian led off singles play with a dominating performance as she cruised past Garcia 6-2, 6-0.  Parks secured the team with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Beaver.  Sydney Page was equally as effective at No. 3 singles, cruising past Candace Ngai 6-0, 6-4.  Donine finished off singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lisa Wood. 

Saddleback (7-8, 4-5) will finish the regular season on Thursday at Orange Coast College 16-1, 9-0).  The Gauchos and Pirates are scheduled to start at 2:00 PM in Costa Mesa.
