Gauchos outlast Ventura in non-conference battle

The Saddleback women's tennis team won its last non-conference match of the year by defeating Ventura College, 5-4, on Friday afternoon on the Saddleback Courts.  The Gauchos were even heading into doubles play as depth played a key role.

Saddleback split six matches with Ventura at singles, with Dominique Willette, Deena Fatehi and Maddison Serklew all winning at singles in comfortable fashion.  Serklew (pictured) then teamed with Ariana Khalaj-Hedayati in the biggest match of the day at #3 doubles with the match all tied at 4-4.  The twosome dominated play, winning 8-0 to give the Gauchos a 5-4 win over the Pirates.   Another two-time winner on the day was Fatehi, who teamed with Joanna Colin for an 8-4 win at #2 doubles with the Gauchos down 4-3 in the team match after losing at #1 doubles.

Saddleback is now 4-5 overall and 0-1 in Orange Empire Conference play with four weeks remaining in the regular season.  The Gauchos will travel to Cypress College to take on the Chargers on Monday.  Match time is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
