Gaucho netters off to a good start
The Saddleback women's tennis team jumped out to a good start on the 2016 season with a pair of tight victories over Grossmont and Santa Barbara at the top of the schedule.
The Gauchos (2-0) opened the season by traveling to Grossmont College and edged the Griffins, 5-4, as Dominique Willette, Joanna Colin, and sophomore Maddison Serklew each won their singles matches. Willette teamed with Ashley Glick to win their match at No. 1 doubles and Colin and Serklew paired up to win at No. 2 doubles, giving Saddleback the necessary points to win the match.
Saddleback returned home to host Santa Barbara City College on Saturday and posted another narrow 5-4 victory. Again, Willette, Colin, and Serklew (pictured) won in singles, as well as Ariana Khalaj-Hedayati at No. 5 singles. Willette and Glick won their match at No. 1 doubles to give the Gauchos the victory.
Tuesday's match against Palomar College was cancelled late as the Comets were not able to field enough players for a team.
Saddleback will be back in action on Thursday at Cuyamaca College. The team won't play at home again until February 16 when it hosts Cerritos College at 2:00 p.m.
