Reid shatters record to finish second

The women's swim and dive team had an exciting moment at the 3C2A State Swim and Dive Championships this weekend at Orange Coast College when Julia Reid finished second in the finals of the 200 breaststroke.  Reid shattered the program record in the event.

Reid has been a force the entire season and saved up her best performance for the women's final of the 200 Breaststroke.  She touched the pad in 2:21.09 to finish second and shattered the program record in the process.  Reid's time was nearly six seconds faster than her previous record (2:27.02) set two weeks earlier at the Orange Empire Conference Finals when she broke the program record set by Alex Peters (2:28.84) in 2008.  Reid was the fastest swimmer in the pool over the final 50 yards (35.68).

Reid was also an 8th place finisher in the 100 Breaststroke when she swam a 1:08.03 in the finals.  She also finished 11th in the finals of the 50 Freestyle when she had a season-best time of 24.81.  Her time in the 50 Freestyle now ranks tied for fourth all-time in program history.

One other swimmer to score points over the weekend was Kaitlyn Dawley, who was 16th in the finals of the 200 Backstroke (2:27.31).
