Bobcats sixth at opening meet

The Saddleback women's swim and dive team competed at the Golden West Invitational, hosted by Orange Coast College on Saturday in Costa Mesa.  The Bobcats finished sixth in the cold and rain.

The weather dominated the story on Saturday as the teams braved the elements to get in an early tune-up for what lies ahead.  Temperatures were in the low 50's with a steady breeze and occasional rain, making things uncomfortable throughout the day.

Saddleback had a handful of solid individual performances, led by Marin Hickson.  The freshman finished fifth in the 200 Individual Medley (2:43.26) and ninth in the 500 Freestyle (6:06.88) to take home 10 points for the team.

Saddleback had three other top-10 performances.  Carson Mackenzie finished sixth in the 100 Fly (1:17.84) and Macie Schniepp finished sixth in the 50 Backstroke (37.71).  Emma Jimenez was 10th in the 50 Freestyle (28.48).

Saddleback picked up a bunch of points in relays with a third place finish in the 800 Freestyle Relay (9:36.04), a fifth place finish in both the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:57.61) and 400 Freestyle Relay (4:30.38), and an eighth place finish in both the 200 Medley Relay (2:17.64) and the 400 Medley Relay (5:16.61).

Saddleback will be back in the pool on March 3 at Orange Coast College for an Orange Empire Conference event.
