Women have strong showing at GWI

The Saddleback women's swim and dive team started the season with a fourth place finish at the Golden West Invitational on Friday in Huntington Beach.  The Gauchos were one of five Orange Empire Conference teams competing and finished just 35 points behind perennial power Golden West.

Saddleback was led by a solid combination in both individual events and relay teams.  The Gauchos had two winners on the day with Amber Theders winning the 200 Individual Medley (2:20.99) and the relay team in the 400 Medley winning by nearly seven seconds (4:32.52).   Theders was not finished, finishing second in both the 200 Freestyle (2:09.49) and 500 Freestyle (5:33.11).   

Other top finishes on the day were turned in by Audra Hogan, Kaylee Inducil, Kailey Banayat, Maddie Choi and Lindsey Turi.  Hogan finished third in the 100 Individual Medley (1:12.59), fourth in the 200 Individual Medley (2:35.21) and seventh in the 500 Freestyle (6:08.80).  Inducil was sixth in the 500 Freestyle (6:08.60) and ninth in the 200 Freestyle (2:25.37).  Banayat finished second in the 100 Backstroke (1:06.81) and fifth in the 200 Individual Medley (2:37.26).  Choi was fourth in the 100 Breaststroke (1:24.39) and fifth in the 50 Breaststroke (38.42).  Turi finished sixth in both the 100 Backstroke (1:13.32) and 100 Fly (1:08.46) while finishing eighth in the 50 Freestyle (29.21).

Saddleback was also consistent in relay events all day long.  In addition to winning the 400 Medley the Gauchos were third in the 200 Medley Reay (2:05.75) and fourth in both the 400 Freestyle Relay (4:26.34) and 200 Freestyle Relay (1:55.51). 

Saddleback will be back in the pool next Friday when they host the Orange Empire Conference.
