The Saddleback women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-0 win against Hartnell College on Friday night at Mt. San Antonio College. The Bobcats scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to turn back the Panthers.
The Mt. SAC Tournament is one of the better tournaments of the year as the teams are generally some of the top teams from each region. Saddleback showed it belonged on Friday after defeating a Hartnell program that won the state title in 2021 and tends to be one of the top teams in the Northern California Region.
The teams were scoreless heading to the second half when Saddleback finally broke through. The Bobcats had an unassisted goal from Hannah Allen in the 75th minute to grab the lead. Saddleback then put the goal away with under five minutes remaining when McKenna Pugh took a pass from Araylia Holiday and beat the keeper for a 2-0 lead.
Saddleback finished with 15 total shots for the game and 10 on goal.
Cameron Simmons and Maycie Pugh both played a half in goal, with Pugh picking up her first win of the season.
Saddleback will play again on Sunday when it faces Lake Tahoe College at the Mt. San Antonio College Tournament. The Bobcats and Coyotes are set to start at 12:00 PM in Walnut.
