Bobcats roll in home-opener

The Saddleback women's soccer team cruised to a 7-0 win against Cerritos College in the home-opener on Friday inside the stadium.  The Bobcats will face Chaffey College on Tuesday.

Saddleback is now 5-0 after the win and has reeled off four straight shutouts following the game on Friday.  The Bobcats started slowly but turned on the gas midway through the opening half, wearing out a Cerritos bench that had just a handful of players for substitutions.

Alyssa Sims opened the scoring in the 19th minute when she took a feed from Summer Hackett and rattled a ball off the right goalpost and into the net.  Isabelle Whittaker made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute when she hammered home a rebound off a McKenna Pua header.  Whittaker scored again just four minutes later off a beautiful feed from Christina Santoyo and the Bobcats were off and running.  Saddleback made it 4-0 heading into the locker room when Alexa Livingstone scored her first goal of the season in the 37th minute off a feed from Abby Grabowski.

Saddleback opened the second half with only a handful of starters on the pitch.  One of those starters was Chloe Green, who scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season when she stole the ball from the goalkeeper and slid it into the back of the net in the 49th minute.  Summer Hackett continued the scoring barrage in the 59th minute with her first goal of the season off a pass from Whittaker.  Justine Rodriguez finished the scoring in the 62nd minute, with Santoyo picking up the assist.

Saddleback finished with a 28-3 advantage in total shots for the game.  The Bobcats started Kadie Albayati in goal and she played the first 45 minutes in improving to 1-0 on the season.  Rylie McLeish played the second half, making two saves.

Saddleback has now gone 413 minutes since last giving up a goal in the opening game of the season.  The Bobcats have outscored opponents 24-1 for the year.

Saddleback plays its final non-conference game on Tuesday before starting Orange Empire Conference play the following week.  The Bobcats will travel to Chaffey College, the program they beat in the state championship last fall.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 PM on Tuesday in Rancho Cucamonga.
