Gauchos hoist the cup

The Saddleback women's soccer team defeated Irvine Valley College on Tuesday afternoon, 3-0, at the Great Park in Irvine.  With the win, the Gauchos retain the SOC Cup.

Saddleback and Irvine Valley have a friendly competition each season, playing for the South Orange County Cup.  With the win on Tuesday, the cup will stay at Saddleback for another year.

Saddleback cruised to a 3-0 win on Tuesday, outshooting Irvine Valley 31-5 for the game, including a 14-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Saddleback opened the scoring in the 9th minute when Maliyah Medley took a pass from Carina Rubalcaba and weaved her way around two defenders to score the opening goal of the game.

Saddleback opened up a 2-0 lead in the 57th minute when Chloe Deveze blasted a ball past the Irvine Valley keeper.  Three minutes later, Medley was back in the books when she scored her 13th goal of the season for a 3-0 lead.

From that point forward, Saddleback emptied out the bench in an attempt to get some fresh legs on the field.  The Gauchos continued to dominate, allowing very few chances for the Lasers.

Saddleback improved to 11-4-4 overall and 8-2-3 in Orange Empire Conference play with the win.  The Gauchos will conclude the regular season with a game at Santiago Canyon College on Friday.  The Gauchos and Hawks are scheduled to start at 3:00 PM at SCC.
