Gauchos soar past Jets

The Saddleback women's soccer team improved to 2-0 with a 7-0 win at San Diego Miramar College on Tuesday in San Diego.  The Gauchos will look for a third straight win on Friday.

Saddleback started slow but kicked into high gear in the 30th minute when Abby Hazen fed Leslie Salgado for a 1-0 lead.  It was the first of three goals in a seven-minute span, all of which came off passes from Hazen.  She then dished two straight passes to Paige Vitolo, who scored in both the 36th and 37 minutes as the Gauchos bolted to a 3-0 lead at the break.

Saddleback kept up the pressure in the second half, scoring seven minutes into the half when Shanai Mai Auguis fed Alyssa Stapinski for a 4-0 lead.  Eva Hayek then got into the books in the 72nd minute off a pass from Madeline Metzdorff and the Gauchos were off and running.  Stapinski returned the favor to Auguis in the 80th minute, giving Saddleback an 8-0 lead.  Hayek then capped off the scoring in the final minute off a pass from Auguis as Saddleback rolled to a second straight win to start the 2019 campaign.

Saddleback's defense was nearly impenetrable, surrendering just one shot on goal on the afternoon.  Lehar Chawla started and earned the win, playing the first 45 minutes.  Taylor Gayer played the final 45 minutes in goal.

Saddleback will travel to San Diego Mesa College on Friday to take on the Olympians.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 PM in San Diego.
