CD plays sweet music for the Gauchos

The Saddleback women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 win over Santa Ana College on Friday in Santa Ana.  The Gauchos received two goals from Caitlin Dolan in gaining ground on the middle of the pack in the Orange Empire Conference.

Saddleback entered the game scoring just two goals in the past four outings and being shut out three times.  The Gauchos flipped in some old technology in the form of a CD, Caitlin Dolan, who picked up her first two goals of the season.  Dolan entered the game leading the team in assists but had yet to notch her first goal of the season, so when she finally tickled the twine it was sweet music to the ears of the coaching staff and the rest of the team.

Dolan opened the scoring in the 30th minute by beating Santa Ana keeper Sara Gomez for a 1-0 lead.  Three minutes later the Gauchos allowed a fluke goal from friendly fire as the ball went off a Gaucho to tie the game at 1-1 in the 33rd minute.  Following a half time pep talk, Dolan again put Saddleback ahead for good with a goal in the 66th minute for a 2-1 lead.

Saddleback outshot Santa Ana 11-3 for the game and had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.  Jolie Moore played the entire 90 minutes in goal for the Gauchos in picking up the win.

Saddleback (6-4-3, 3-4-2) is now one point out of fifth place with seven games remaining on the schedule.  The Gauchos get a tough test on Tuesday when they host Cypress (7-4-3, 5-2-2) at the OC Great Park.  Saddleback tied Cypress 3-3 on September 14 and the Chargers are currently tied for second place in the OEC standings.  Game time on Tuesday is scheduled for 1:00 PM in Irvine.
