Gauchos settle for scoreless tie

The Saddleback women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie against Santa Ana College on Tuesday afternoon at the Saddleback Stadium.  The Gauchos and Lady Dons battled for 90 minutes with neither team breaking the scoreless deadlock.

Saddleback had an opportunity to gain ground in the Orange Empire Conference, entering play one point behind Santa Ana.  The Gauchos had to settle for a tie, meaning they are still a point out of fifth place.

Saddleback outshot Santa Ana 12-9 for the game and had six shots on goal to four for the Lady Dons.  The two teams combined for 19 fouls in what was a physical game between two solid defensive squads.

Marisa Covarrubias and Kenya Salgado led Saddleback with three shots apiece for the day while Covarrubias led the team with two shots on goal.

Dz-Rae Jara completed her sixth shutout of the season, turning away four shots on goal by Santa Ana.  She and the Gauchos (6-4-4, 3-4-3) have given up a conference-low nine goals all season.

Saddleback will play again on Friday when they host second place Cypress College.  The Gauchos and Chargers are set to start at 1:00 PM in the stadium.
