Gauchos rally past Long Beach City

The Saddleback women's soccer team improved to 3-0 on Monday with a 2-1 win at Long Beach City College.  Natally Gomez scored both goals for the Gauchos in the comeback victory.

Saddleback faced its first adversity of the season on Monday after shutting out two straight opponents to start the season.  The Gauchos trailed 1-0 late in the opening half and had to come from behind to keep their winning streak intact.

Gomez scored her first goal of the season in the 38th minute unassisted to bring Saddleback even at 1-1 after Long Beach had taken the lead in the 34th minute on a goal from Juliana Carrillo.  The teams went to the locker room tied at 1-1, with both teams registering four shots on goal.

The teams came out in defensive mode in the second half, with very few shots reaching the net.  Saddleback broke the ice in the 82nd minute when Gomez slipped one past Long Beach keeper Briana Alarcon on what was the first shot on goal for the Gauchos of the half.  Saddleback locked down on defense the rest of the way as the Vikings were unable to get a shot on goal in the final eight minutes.

Dz-Rae Jara picked up her third straight win of the season in goal and has given up just one goal in three games.

Saddleback is 3-0 for the fourth consecutive season.  The last time the Gauchos won their first four games of the season was 2015 when they opened the season 7-0-1.

Saddleback will play again on Thursday at San Diego Mesa College.  The Gauchos and Olympians are set to kickoff at 7:00 PM in San Diego.
