Steinbeck writes new chapter to unbeaten streak

The Saddleback women's soccer team extended its record-setting unbeaten streak to start the season to 10 with a 2-2 tie against Cypress College on Tuesday at the stadium.  Connor Steinbeck tied the game in the 60th minute as the Gauchos improved to 7-0-3 on the season.

Saddleback took the lead in the 33rd minute when Rachel Edelstein notched her eighth goal of the season off a pass from Emilee Monnig

Cypress quickly responded, scoring less than two minutes later when Kelsea Freiling scored on a free kick from 30-yards out.  Feeling the wave of emotion, Freiling again scored off a free kick just six minutes later to give Cypress a 2-1 lead despite Saddleback having a big advantage on shots.

Saddleback regrouped at half and came out clicking.  Steinbeck answered in the 61st minute when Emily Druckery slid her pass for a goal to tie the game at 2-2.

Saddleback controlled the play for most of the game, out-shooting Cypress 19-7 with a 10-4 advantage on shots on goal.  The Gauchos had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks but could break through against Cypress keeper Angeles Alvarez, who finished with eight saves.

Saddleback and Cypress remain tied for second place in the Orange Empire Conference standings after the game, behind only Santiago Canyon College.

The Gauchos will travel to Santiago Canyon on Friday for a match with the Hawks. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM.
