Bobcats second at COD Invitational

Bobcats second at COD Invitational

The Saddleback women's golf team finished in second place at the opening tournament of the season at The Lakes Country Club in Palm Desert (College of the Desert).   Sophomore Nicole Whipple led the Bobcats with a fifth place finish in medalist play.

Saddleback opened the season facing the program (Modesto) that beat them on the final day of the season last year at the state championships.  The Bobcats rallied for the low score on day two of the tournament, but came up 12 shots shy of catching the Pirates.  Saddleback shot a score of 310 (+22) after shooting 328 on opening day on Sunday.

Whipple shot 77 on Monday for a two-day total of 156.  It was good enough for fifth place in medalist play.  The Bobcats received a sensational round from freshman Caitlin Randolph, who fired the second lowest round of the day at 74.  Randolph was -1 on the front nine, shooting 35-39.  It was a huge improvement for Randolph after shooting 88 on Sunday.  Another with a tremendous opening event was freshman Karissa Flores, who had a two-day total of 159 (80-79) to finish sixth in medalist play.

Saddleback will play again at Ironwood Country Club next Monday.

Saddleback's team score of 310 was just three shots away from a record team score of 307 shot last seaon at Soboba Springs in the opening match of the season.
