Gauchos in third after day one

The Saddleback women's golf team is in third place after the opening day of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Tournament at Morro Bay.  The Gauchos are six shots out of second place with one day remaining.

Saddleback opened up with a team score of 331 on Sunday, narrowly leading a pack of five teams that all sit within seven shots of them.  The Gauchos are just six shots behind second place College of the Desert and 22 shots off the pace set by heavy favorite, College of the Canyons.

Saddleback's success can be attributed to a deep lineup.  The Gauchos had five players shoot 88-or-lower, led by Brittney Do.  The sophomore from Marina High School fired a 7-over-par round of 79 on Sunday on the 5,378-yard layout located along the Central Coast.

Three shots behind Do was Anna Stowers, who had her season-low round of the year by shooting 82 on Sunday.  Her previous low of 83 came back on September 26 at Arroyo Trabuco.

Saddleback also got a boost from Sunhae Son, who had her third best round of the season in finishing with an 83.  Rounding out the team scoring on Sunday was Tannaz Khazeni, who shot 87.

Do currently sits in 13th place in medalist play heading into the final round on Monday.  Stowers is tied for 21st place while Son is alone in 23rd place.
