Gauchos win second straight title

Gauchos win second straight title

The Saddleback women's golf team won its second straight Orange Empire Conference championship on Wednesday at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.  The Gauchos shot a two-day total of 679 while freshman Brittney Do won the conference MVP.

Saddleback nearly had things clinched heading into round two and needed only to finish the round to guarantee a conference title.  The Gauchos finished the deal, shooting a 341 on day two of the finals in winning by 17 shots.

Brittney Do was another that finished the job as she secured the conference MVP award with an 8-over par round of 80.  Do led by seven shots heading into the final round and increased the lead to 11 by the end of the day.  She had a two-day total of 11-over par, which was five shots better than Fullerton's Kaylee Jeon.

In addition to Do, three other Gauchos made the all-conference team as Deanna Pagaduan made the first team and both Tannaz Khazeni and Brooke Yafckli made the second team.

It is the first back-to-back titles in women's golf for Saddleback since the 2005-2006 seasons.

"I'm really proud of what they accomplished," head coach Bob Bosanko said.  "They battled all the way and played outstanding golf down the stretch."

Saddleback finished the Orange Empire Conference schedule 31-1, winning the last seven rounds in OEC play.

Saddleback will play in the Southern California Regional Championships at Temecula Creek Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
