Women’s golf finishes third in the desert

The Saddleback women's golf team opened the 2017 campaign by finishing third in one of the better tournaments of the fall at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort on Friday and Saturday in Palm Springs.  Brittney Do led the charge, capturing medalist honors.

Saddleback is coming off its best finish in 10 years after winning the Orange Empire Conference title in 2016.  The Gauchos are hoping to take another step forward after finishing eighth at the state championships last fall.  Saddleback had a solid start over the weekend in finishing third with a two-day total of 653 and just 10 shots off the lead.

Do is one of the newcomers on the team and a freshman from Marina High School.  She looked anything like a freshman on opening weekend, firing a 3-under-par total of 143.  Do was 1-under-par (73) in the opening round on the 5,846-yard Legend Course.  She then followed with a 2-under-par round of 70 on the 5,206-yard Resort Course on Saturday.  Do was six shots in front of Irvine Valley's Kylie Sok and Desert's Lichi Lu, who finished in a tie for second place.

Saddleback's other freshman, Tannaz Khazeni, also played a big part in the high finish after shooting 86 and 82 to finish 19th overall out of 62 players in the field.

Santa Barbara finished in the top spot in the team competition, shooting a team total of 643.  Host College of the Desert was second at 646.

Saddleback is back on the course on September 13 when they travel to Diamond Bar Golf Course in an event hosted by Fullerton College.
