Gauchos end slump with big win

The Saddleback softball team defeated Mt. San Jacinto College, 12-2, on Monday at the Saddleback softball diamond.  The Gauchos scored nine runs in the opening inning in leading from start to finish.

Saddleback ended a rough patch of losses with a dominating win.  The Gauchos sent 12 batters to the plate in the opening inning against an Eagle squad that used two pitchers and made nine defensive moves in the opening inning.  The big blow was a bases-clearing double by Vanessa Alvarran to give Saddleback a 9-0 lead.

Alvarran (pictured) finished 2-for-2 with a walk and four RBI in the game.  She made the score 11-2 in the bottom of the third inning when she laced a ball to right field to score Naomi Varela.

McKenna Walton pitched a five-inning complete game, giving up five hits while striking out one.  The lone runs were unearned runs in the second and third innings when Saddleback made a flurry of miscues on the defensive end.

Saddleback is now 4-14 overall and will head back into Orange Empire Conference play on Wednesday when they host Fullerton College.  The Gauchos and Hornets are set to start at 3:00 PM on the Saddleback diamond.
