Gauchos serve double-doubles at MSJC

The Saddleback softball team ripped off a pair of wins at the Mt. San Jacinto College Tournament on Saturday in Menifee, California.  The Gauchos stormed past College of the Desert, 12-0, before streaking past Oxnard College, 10-3.

Saddleback had a solid day on Saturday, putting together back-to-back solid performances to run their overall record to 4-5.  The Gauchos have now won three of their last four games after winning 2-of-3 in the tournament.

Saddleback opened with a whitewash of Desert, dominating from start to finish with a 12-0 win in five innings.  McKenna Walton and Carlee Russo combined on a two-hit shutout in the game.

Game two saw Saddleback breeze past Oxnard, 10-3.  Walton was on the mound for the entire seven innings, throwing a five-hitter with seven strikeouts.

The offensive stars of the day were Russo and Bridget Thornton, who both collected five hits apiece in the two games.  Russo (pictured) led the team with four RBI on the day.

Saddleback will play again on Wednesday when they return home to face Santiago Canyon College in Orange Empire Conference play.  The first pitch with the Hawks is scheduled for 3:00 PM at Trani Field.
