Ray leads Gauchos to 15th at state

The Saddleback men's cross country team had a 15th place finish at the state finals on Saturday in Fresno.  Freshman Brody Ray led the team with a 44th place finish in the team competition.

Ray has been a leader for most of the season so it was no surprise when he had the top finish on the team at the state finals on Saturday.  The San Juan Hills High School grad crossed the finish line of the 4-mile trek in 21:30.6, which was god enough for 44th in the team competition and 49th overall.

Saddleback had three other harriers finish in the top-100 in the team competition in a race that featured 175 runners.  Next in line was freshman Dale Neumann, who was 64th in the team competition with a time of 21:46.5.  Sophomore Jacob King finished 75th in the team competition (22:00.8) while Michael Kabbout was 92nd (22:24.8).

It was the seventh straight season that the Saddleback men's program has had a top-20 finish at the state meet and the third time in the past four seasons they have finished in the top-15.

Mt. San Antonio College captured the team competition by a narrow margin over Orange Empire Conference rival Riverside City College.
