Gauchos to play for third place

The Saddleback men's water polo team split two games on opening day at the Orange Empire Conference Tournament on Thursday at Golden West College.  The Gauchos will play for third place on Saturday.

Saddleback opened the tournament with a 12-6 win against Fullerton College on Thursday morning.  The Gauchos trailed early and took a 3-2 lead on a goal from Andrew Carter with 2:10 remaining in the opening quarter.  Saddleback would never trail again from that point forward, outscoring the Hornets 10-4 over the final 26+ minutes of the game.

Carter would finish with a team-high three goals in the game while Carson Williams, Ethan Abravanel, Aidan Caporicci and Spencer Sellwood all scored two goals apiece.  Grant Chauncey was solid in goal, making eight saves for the game.

Saddleback then played perennial power Golden West in the semifinals, falling to the Rustlers 17-7.  The Gauchos will play Riverside City College in the third place game on Saturday at 11:10 AM in Huntington Beach.
