Gauchos tame Tigers in the pool

The Saddleback men's water polo team picked up a win on Wednesday with a 7-3 victory over Riverside City College in the Saddleback pool.  It was the fewest goals allowed in a game for the Gauchos this season.

Saddleback and Riverside were tied at 2-2 entering the second quarter when the Gauchos went on a run.  Saddleback scored the opening three goals of the quarter as Aidan Caporicci scored two straight goals followed by a goal from Spencer Sellwood.  Following an RCC goal, Sellwood would score another as Saddleback carried a 6-3 lead into halftime.

The two teams went scoreless in the third quarter and then Saddleback scored the lone goal of the fourth quarter when Keaton Ota scored with 5:30 remaining in the contest for a 7-3 lead.  In total, Saddleback held Riverside scoreless over the final 17+ minutes of the game, not allowing a goal in the entire second half of play.

Grant Chauncey played the whole game in goal for the Gauchos in picking up the victory.

Saddleback is now 9-16 overall and 2-3 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Gauchos will play in the Southwestern College Tournament this Friday and Saturday.  Saddleback opens the tournament against Palomar College on Friday at 12:10 PM.
