Gauchos bounce back at Golden West

The Saddleback men's water polo team collected two wins at the Golden West College men's water polo tournament on Saturday in Huntington Beach.  The Gauchos now stand at 2-2 heading to Connecticut.

Saddleback dropped a pair of games on Friday on opening day, falling to two of the better teams in the state in Long Beach City College (6-22) and American River College (6-11).  The Gauchos bounced back on Saturday, defeating Palomar College (13-10) and Rio Hondo College (18-6).

Saddleback led 6-4 after the first period and 8-6 at the half against Palomar on Saturday morning in picking up their first win of the season.  Spencer Sellwood (pictured left) led the way for the Gauchos, scoring a team-high four goals in the contest and collecting five steals.  Carson Williams (pictured right) and Aidan Caporicci both had three goals apiece as the Gauchos carried a 12-9 lead into the final period in holding off the Comets.

Saddleback then had its best game of the season in game two on Saturday, streaking past Rio Hondo 18-6.  The Gauchos led 7-1 after one period and took a 10-3 lead into the intermission.  Williams finished with a team-high six goals in the game while the combination of Grant Chauncey, Jacob Idris and Justin Allen combined to make 11 saves on 17 shots from the Roadrunners.

Saddleback will have the week off before a trip across the country to play in the Connecticut College Tournament.  The Gauchos open with Penn State Behrend on Saturday, September 21, in New London, Connecticut.
