Gauchos open tourney with blowout wins

The Saddleback men's water polo team opened the Saddleback Invitational with back-to-back blow out wins over San Diego Miramar College and Southwestern College on Friday at the Saddleback Aquatics Center.  The Gauchos are now 8-4 overall heading into action on Saturday where they host two more teams in the tournament.

Saddleback opened on Friday with a 17-5 win against Miramar.  The Gauchos had a 12-0 lead midway through the second quarter in cruising past the Jets.  James Martin led the way on the scoresheet with six goals in the game while both Dylan Shaffer and James Martin added four apiece.

Saddleback finished off the day by taking apart Southwestern, 23-8.  The Gauchos outscored the Jaguars 7-2 in each of the first two quarters in taking a 14-4 lead at the half.  They would eventually widen the lead to 23-6 before taking their foot off the gas pedal in the fourth quarter.  James Martin led the way for Saddleback with eight goals while five different players had at least three goals.

Saddleback will host two more teams in the tournament on Saturday as they host Modesto Junior College at 10:30 AM and finish with Grossmont College at 3:30 PM.
