McGinley wins state coaching award

The Saddleback track & field program was back in the news this weekend as it was reported from the track & field office that assistant coach Shaun McGinley was recognized for his efforts this past season.  McGinley was named the track & field assistant coach-of-the-year.

McGinley was recognized by the California Community College Cross Country and Track Coaches Association (5CTCA) as the assistant coach-of-the-year following a tremendous 2018 outdoors campaign.

McGinley handles the throws portion of the track & field team, coaching the hammer and discus athletes at Saddleback.  His athletes have achieved a ton of success during his tenure with the Gauchos, including another individual state champion this past season when Eric McArthur captured the state hammer championship in May.  In addition to McArthur, Christian Ydens finished second in the state while women's thrower Anna Gillis finished third in the hammer and fifth in the discus.

McGinley has coached a number of sensational field athletes since arriving at Saddleback in 2009, with four of them going on to win individual state titles and setting national marks along the way.
