Gauchos solid at state T&F on opening day

The Saddleback track & field team had a solid opening day at the California Community College State Track & Field Championships on Friday in San Mateo.  Kyler Fisk shattered the school record in the 10,000 meters in finishing third overall while two others finished in the top three in their respective events.

Fisk (pictured) saved his best for last, running the 10,000 meters in 30:39.33, setting a new personal-best and breaking the program record by 50 seconds.  The previous best time in the 10,000 meters was by Adalberto Sanchez in 1996 (31:29.3).    Fisk was just nine seconds out of second place and 18 seconds off the lead pace set by Riverside's John Guzman-Aguilar.

In addition to Fisk, hammer thrower Patrick Geers kept his late-season run going when he finished second in the hammer throw.  Geers had a personal-best throw of 182' 5" in finishing behind Modesto's Markus Sanders (191' 8").   It makes him the No. 3 all-time performer in program history behind Remy Conatser in 2012 (217' 4") and 2011 (189' 10").

On the women's side, hammer thrower Julia Reedy finished in third place at the state meet on Friday with a toss of 169' 10".
