Gauchos buzz past Hornets

The Saddleback men's tennis team remained in second place in the Orange Empire Conference with an 8-1 win at Fulerton College on Thursday in Fullerton.  The Gauchos won all six singles matches in improving to 7-4 overall.

Saddleback was dominant in the singles portion of the match, showing a ton of depth against a Hornet squad that has yet to win in OEC play.  Chris Torcaso led off with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Charles Kirk at No. 4 singles to give the Gauchos a 1-0 lead.  Shortly thereafter Oliver Ludwig finished off Fullerton's Louis St. Clair 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles and Saddleback was off and running.   Ivan Ozerets was another winner in straight sets in beating Thiago Manzano 7-6, 6-0 as Saddleback grabbed a 3-0 lead. Lucas Fortt did the same to Rodrigo Orate Garcia at No. 3 singles, winning 6-3, 6-3.  Shayan Haddad Kaveh and Tyler Edwards both dropped first sets before rallying to win at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.  Kaveh battled from one set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 over Jindrich Kosatik while Edwards was a winner over Sergio Lee Gutierrez 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Edwards and Torcaso would then team for an 8-7 win at No. 1 doubles.  Ludwig was also a two-time winner, teaming with Ryan Burns at No. 3 doubles for an 8-4 win.

Saddleback is scheduled to host Cerritos College on Friday.  Match time is scheduled for 2:00 PM at the Saddleback Tennis Complex.
