Swansen does the twist for 3-meter title

Saddleback diver Jacob Swansen became the first individual Gaucho to capture a state title in swimming and diving since 2008 when he won the 3-meter dive at the CCCAA Championships at East Los Angeles College on Thursday.  Swansen dominated the competition and will try for a double-double on Friday.

Swansen is a sophomore from Aliso Niguel High School and has been dominating the competition for the majority of the season.  He finished with a forward, 1-and-1/2 somersault with a twist for a score of 55.50 on his final dive, cementing the win.

Swansen's total of 268.05 was nearly 70 points ahead of the second place finisher on Thursday.  Sierra's Austin Foote took second at 198.55 while Las Positas' Matt Alvarado was third with 187.35.

Swansen will go for a second title today in the 1-meter dive.  He had the top score in the prelims on Thursday with a total of 275.85.

Swansen is the first swimmer/diver to win a title since Alex Peters won both the 500-freestyle and 1650-freestyle in 2008.  He is the first diver in the program to win a title since Alyssa Gibson won both the 1-meter and 3-meter for the women in 2004.
