Gauchos third in final tune-up

The Saddleback men's golf team is less than two weeks from the beginning of the 2018 campaign and had one last tune-up on Monday in Victor Valley at Spring Valley Lake Country Club.  The Gauchos finished third out of 12 teams in a best-ball format.

The Orange Empire Conference is always one of the toughest conferences in Southern California and again looks as if it will be loaded from top to bottom.  The top four teams on the day were all from the OEC, with Orange Coast (-15), Cypress (-14), Saddleback (-11) and Riverside (-9) finishing 1-2-3-4. 

Monday's tune-up was a best-ball format, with two-man pairs.  The top unit from Saddleback was the team of Cole Griffo (left) and Spencer Allen (right), who combined to tie for medalist honors with a seven-under-par round of 65 in the unofficial, two-man best ball scimmage competition.  

Saddleback will start the regular season on February 5 at Los Serranos Golf Course against fellow Orange Empire Conference teams as part of a two-day event (OEC Tee-Off Classic) that concludes on February 7.
