Williams and Smith sign with ODU

The Saddleback football program had two players from the 2018 squad sign letters of intent to four-year schools on Wednesday.  Tony Williams and Brandon Smith both signed with Old Dominion University, with many more to come.

Wednesday was early National Signing Day for community college football players nationwide, with players from around the nation signing their letters of intent.  Saddleback had both Williams and Smith, who will continue to play together at Old Dominion.

Williams was a leader in the defensive secondary for Saddleback this past season, finishing with 48 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, one interception and two passes broken-up for the Gauchos.  He's a 6-foot-2, 210-pound safety from Mission Viejo High School.  Williams was an All-National Division Southern League First Team selection in 2016 as a freshman and returned this season after missing the 2017 campaign.

Smith was one of the pillars up front on offense out of Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas.  At 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds, he was an All-National Division Southern League Second Team selection this season as an offensive guard.  Smith was one of the leaders of a young offense in 2018 that improved greatly down the stretch, scoring 34-or-more points in seven of the final nine games of the season.

Both players will continue their careers at Old Dominion University, located in Norfolk, Virginia.  The Monarchs play an NCAA Division I schedule within the Conference USA.
