Saddleback breaks ground on new stadium

Saddleback College officially broke ground on a new stadium on Monday as administrators, coaches, athletes and cheerleaders all were on hand to put the first shovels in the ground.   The new stadium is expected to be completed in time for the 2019 fall schedules.

Saddleback's new 8,000-seat stadium/sports complex will be home to a number of teams and events.  It will feature a nine-lane running track, football field, two turf practice fields, a turf soccer field, thrower's park, concession stand, viewing platform, storage for football, soccer and track & field equipment, modern press box, athletic team meeting rooms, state-of-the-art scoreboard and sound system with integrated WI-FI technologies.

In addition to Saddleback College athletic events, the new stadium is expected to be used for NCAA and USA track & field meets as well as high school football games and a variety of other large events.

"The new stadium and practice fields will be an incredible addition to our campus and I'm excited to be part of this chapter in the college's athletics history. Not only will the new stadium elevate the college athletics experience for our athletes and students, but it will also provide our local high schools with a state-of-the-art experience they desire," said Dan Clauss, Dean of Athletics and Kinesiology and Athletics Director.

The official start date for the project is next Monday, March 19.
