10 Gauchos make SCFA All-Academic Team

The Saddleback football program was back in the news this week as the Southern California Football Association released its all-academic team.  A total of 10 Gauchos were named to the team on Monday.

Saddleback had another successful season on the field this past fall when it finished 8-3 and qualified for the Southern California Playoffs.  We also found out this week that they were very good off the field, with 10 different players making the Southern California Football Association All-Academic Team.

Only two other programs from the 31 squads in the SCFA had more players on the all-academic team, giving credence to the idea that Saddleback is one of the more well-rounded programs in the state.  They succeed both on the field and off the field, which is the ultimate goal of the administrators, coaches and fans.

"Coach McElroy and his staff have done an amazing job at stressing academics," Saddleback Dean of Athletics and Athletics Director Dan Clauss said.  "It's impressive that Saddleback continues to stand out as student-athletes in the classroom, all the while achieving high goals on the field.  It's a tough juggling act, and they do it as well as anybody on an annual basis."

In order for student-athletes to qualify for the SCFA Al-Academic Team, they must have achieved a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average while completing a minimum 36 academic units...27 of which must be in academic (non-PE or sport activity) courses.
