Holmes to be inducted into CCCFCA Hall of Fame

Former Saddleback College defensive standout and kick return specialist Rudy Holmes will be inducted into the California Community College Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 10, at the Elks Lodge in Visalia.

Holmes was a three-sport letterman at Mission Viejo High School, playing basketball, baseball, and running track.  On a dare, he joined the Saddleback football team in 1970, earning all-conference honorable mention status as a free safety.  The next season he moved to cornerback and was selected as the conference's defensive player of the year.  He posted six interceptions while also returning three punts for touchdowns and two kickoffs for touchdowns, totaling nearly 1,000 yards in interception, punt, and kickoff returns.  He still holds the Saddleback College records for most punts returned for a touchdown as well as most kickoffs returned for a touchdown.

He continued his education and football career at Drake University and helped the Bulldogs to a conference championship in 1972 while earning all-conference honors in 1973.  He went on to play for the Atlanta Falcons in 1974 and the Southern California Sun of the World Football League in 1975.

The CCCFCA Hall of Fame begins at 11:30 a.m. on March 10 at the Elks Lodge, 3100 West Main Street, in Visalia.  Tickets for the induction luncheon are $50 each and can be reserved by calling (559) 934-2455.  Reservations must be made by Friday, March 2nd.
